CA: Credit card scammer pleads guilty

Ronald Leon Marshall, 53, of Los Angeles, has pleaded guilty in federal court to four counts of using unauthorized credit cards to defraud Central Valley merchants and credit card companies, says U.S. Attorney Benjamin Wagner.

Mr. Marshall admitted that for six weeks in 2008 he used stolen and otherwise unauthorized credit card numbers to buy electronics and other goods from businesses in the Central Valley and elsewhere, including at Costco and Sam’s Club stores, according to Assistant U.S. Attorney Kirk Sherriff, who prosecuted the case.

A search of Mr. Marshall’s car found a laptop computer containing files with unauthorized credit card account information belonging to third parties, a credit card reader/writer, and counterfeit credit and debit cards whose magnetic strips had been encoded with unauthorized account information, prosecutors say.
