Ca: Laval transit card disposal breaches privacy

The Laval Transit Corporation has launched an investigation after more than one hundred expired student transit cards were found lying on the ground near the Longueuil metro station on Montreal’s South Shore.

Unlike the regular-fare “Opus” smart cards, the student cards contain private information including a person’s name, photo and school.

The Agence Métropolitaine de Transport (AMT), which runs Montreal’s suburban train network has contracted out management of a ticket office at the Longueuil metro station to a company called Gestion Termico Inc.

Termico also has a contract to handle ID photos and renew student smart cards at high-schools in Laval, north of Montreal.
