Ca: Patient data ends up in public hands

Nicole Million reports:

Every person who walks into a doctor’s office or hospital assumes his or her information will stay confidential.

However, that was not the case for a handful of area residents who underwent surgery at Georgian Bay General Hospital in August.

A piece of paper containing the names of eight female patients – along with the names of their family physicians, surgeon Dr. Patrick O’Halloran, and the type and date of the surgery – was discovered on a Midland street Sept. 30 by a resident who brought it to The Mirror’s downtown office.
