Ca: Town of Wasaga Beach recovering from ransomware attack, negotiating with hackers

Ken Hashizume  reports:
The Town of Wasaga Beach is slowly but surely recovering from a recent cyber attack.
Staff discovered ransomware was installed on the Town’s computer system in April affecting the website and municipal services.
The Town was working with OPP in negotiating with the hackers.
They say they have since been able to gain access to three of their servers.

As of May 9, the town had paid some ransom and was indicating that it would pay more after they saw whether they had successfully decrypted the first of the compromised servers. They did not disclose how much they had already paid and how much more they would be paying.
