Cop’s suicide was NOT because of AshleyMadison data dump exposure

A San Antonio police officer whose suicide had been tentatively linked to exposure in the Ashley Madison data dump was not a member of Ashley Madison, according to both those who examined the data dumps and his widow.

His name was listed as a member by a web site that is anti-police, Cop Block.

The Daily Mail has more on this.

I wonder if this is one of the two suicides the Toronto police made reference to?

At the time, the Toronto police were aware of his suicide but said they had no confirmation it was linked to the leak.

I don’t get it. Why would he do it, when he himself would know his email address is not REALLY in the list? Perhaps someone did this to him. Very, very sad.

Yes, someone apparently listed his name even though it was never in the data dump.

Perhaps it really has nothing at all to do with his name put purposely on some list on some obscure website which appears to be a hate site (my first impression).

Why not hit the place for slander/libel or similar? The extreme reaction to the shaming was… extreme. Perhaps there were other issues? A quick check surely would have shown his email addy was faked. I mean.. these are cops and detectives, surely they would have check the source of the data instead of taking some obscure hate site at their word. No?

Then on pastebin people were sorting and pasting data by gov by edu by state by city by country by everything. Perhaps the hate site grabbed info from that instead of the actual data dump? Not to make excuses for it, but I suppose this possibility exists.

The reaction was extreme, had to be more to it to push a man over the edge like that. No?

It might have been the straw that broke the camel’s back…. the added stress of dealing with the publicity – even though he knew it to be false and even though his wife supported him – may have just been one stressor too many.

We’ll never know, unless he left a note, but do I think the hate site that tried to create problems for him has moral culpability here? You betcha.

          oh yeah.

I’m waiting to see if anything comes of this.
