Health records not exposed by Medicare breach

The Australian Medical Association has expressed concern about the government’s ability to protect private information following claims Medicare numbers are being sold by criminals online.

Australian Medical Association President Michael Gannon said he was worried the breach would undermine patient confidence in the new My Health Record system. Digital medical records are due to be set up for all Australians from next year unless they opt out.

Human Services Minister Alan Tudge has meanwhile moved to assure Australians that only card numbers have been exposed and no medical records have been breached.
