HSE laptop containing personal information stolen
The HSE is confirming that a laptop, blackberry phone and a data disk containing the personal information of more than 1,000 healthcare workers has been stolen.
The Executive is apologising for the incident and has begun contacting those affected.
In a statement, the HSE says the laptop, blackberry and data disk were stolen from the home of a staff member last Wednesday.
The disk contained electronic copies of consent forms signed by 1,150 healthcare workers for the flu vaccine.
The forms contained their names, addresses, dates of birth, contact telephone numbers, GPs names and data relating to their jobs.
The HSE is notifying those involved and has reported the incident to the Gardaà and the Data Protection Commissioner. The Executive says it’s currently encrypting all its devices that contain personal data and that the process should be completed by the end of this month.
