Judge sentences foreign hacker for first time ever in US

There’s an update to a case previously noted on this site.

Jessica Masulli Reyes reports:

David Pokora, 22, of Ontario, Canada, was sentenced to 18 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release.

The group was responsible for stealing over $100 million worth of intellectual property from major technology companies, including Microsoft, EA Games, Activision/Blizzard, Zombie Studios and Valve Corp.

The hackers broke into companies’ networks in a simple way – by obtaining the usernames and passwords of employees. Once in the network, they were able to steal trade secrets.
