Louisville chiropractor gets probation for videotaping patients

Patrick Howington reports:

Dr. Paul Hollern, who once ran a chiropractor-training empire from Louisville, was sentenced yesterday to 12 months of probation for videotaping patients without their knowledge.

Hollern, 45, must serve six months of that time on home incarceration, but he is allowed to leave home to work.

The jury could not reach a verdict on the main charge of health-care fraud for allegedly teaching young chiropractors to sell unnecessary services to patients by lying about X-rays. Jurors also deadlocked on whether Hollern retaliated against a witness. He was acquitted on the fourth charge, violating a patient-privacy law.
