MA: Records with private info about Quincy vets found on city streets

Posted on April 23, 2014April 23, 2014 by Dissent

Dozens of old city records containing private information about local military veterans were strewn about a Quincy Center neighborhood Tuesday, blowing around in the wind and available for anyone to pick up and view.

The records, some of which contained personal information for Quincy military veterans, such as Social Security numbers, bank account data, healthcare information and benefit claims, were found scattered outside on the same day the city’s veterans service department disposed of thousands of old documents.

Henry Bradley, the city’s acting director of veterans services, said his department had disposed of about 85 boxes of old veterans records on Tuesday afternoon, when shredding-company Shred King of Quincy picked them up. The city’s veterans services department at 24 High School Ave. is located about eight-tenths of a mile from where the records were found.
