Melissa: ransomware prevention partnership

Posted on October 4, 2023 by Dissent

From Politie, this press release:

Driebergen – The Public Prosecution Service (OM), the police, the National Cyber Security Center (NCSC), Cyberveilig Nederland and various private parties* from the cybersecurity sector today signed the ‘Melissa’ covenant. Melissa is a partnership between these public and private parties to combat ransomware attacks. The shared goal is to make the Netherlands an unattractive target for ransomware criminals.

First results of partnership

The partnership means that the parties exchange information with each other on a structural basis and share and discuss current developments more frequently. The Melissa agreement sets out the legal, organizational and technical agreements of this partnership. The collaboration already started in 2021 and previously led to successful operations such as Deadbolt , Genesis Market and recently operation Qakbot. Results have also been achieved in the tactical field, such as creating and sharing statistics about, for example, ransomware attacks, published white papers Exfiltration v3.0 and Ransomware and best practices.
