Posted on December 11, 2022 by Dissent

Morgan County School District Re-3 in Colorado canceled classes on Friday. A notice on their website states:

Morgan County Schools recently discovered a cybersecurity incident impacting its network environment. We are currently working with a team of forensic experts to fully understand the extent and implications of this incident and to restore operations within a safe and remediated network environment.  We apologize for the operational disruption that this event may have caused, or continue to cause, until a safe restoration of services has been completed.

The notice was also posted on the district’s Facebook page.

The closure notice was posted on the evening of December 8 on Facebook:

As you are aware, Morgan County School District is facing a cybersecurity incident that is impacting our operational systems.
To give our IT Department and forensic experts time to investigate and hopefully restore operations, we will not be having school tomorrow , Friday, December 9th.
We thank you for your understanding and patience as we navigate this incident.

There has been no update to the district’s web site or Facebook page since the closure notice and no mention (yet) of whether this was a ransomware attack or if any personal information was accessed or acquired.

Thanks to the reader who alerted us to this one!
