NJ: Pohatcong police make credit card fraud arrests

Township police on Jan. 29 arrested two Brooklyn residents, Floyd Benoit and Shanel M. Kerr, on charges of committing credit card fraud at the Wal-Mart on Route 22.

Kerr was arrested and charged with the following crimes: fraudulent use of a credit card, theft by deception, forgery and uttering a forged instrument after police were informed of suspicious activity by Wal-Mart loss prevention personnel.

The police investigation also revealed Kerr was using fraudulent credit cards to purchase approximately $1,400 worth of merchandise. The cards are believed to be accounts belonging to other cardholders without their authorization.

Police recovered a 40″ LCD Television, two laptop computers, and three American Express gift cards from the suspects’ vehicle. Police also retrieved a skimming device, which is believed to contain more account numbers. Police also believe the trio may be tied to a larger identity theft scheme possibly operating out of New York.
