OH: More details emerge on Willard Park Garage breach

Cory Shaffer reports:

The vendor that runs the parking garage under Cleveland City Hall confirmed a data breach in late October potentially compromised sensitive information of hundreds of people who park in the garage.

Ken Russo, director of support services for Datapark, confirmed in a city-issued statement that the company’s financial security system had been breached, potentially compromising bank account and/or credit card information of those who have used the Willard Park Garage under Cleveland City Hall at 601 Lakeside Avenue.

The city has now verified 36 people who had their information stolen, spokesman Dan Williams said Saturday.

Williams said the hacker used a skimmer – a handheld device that extracts credit card information as the cards are swiped – and had to be close to the payment kiosk to steal the data.
