PA: Luzerne County Community College email gaffe exposed faculty SSNs, W-2 info

Eric Mark reports:

An email mistakenly sent by Luzerne County Community College to staff and faculty members on Wednesday has raised privacy concerns about personal information contained in an attachment to the message.

The email, sent Wednesday afternoon to 264 full-time LCCC employees, concerned revisions to W-2 forms for faculty and staff members.

However, the message included an attachment that contained employees’ personal information, such as Social Security numbers. Later Wednesday afternoon, the college sent a follow-up email directing recipients to disregard the first message and to delete it “as soon as possible,” since it contained private information that had been  sent by mistake.
