SC: Pickens County School District internet outage caused by cyberattack, district says

Stephanie Towers reports:

An Upstate school district dealt with an internet outage Tuesday morning.

The Pickens County School District said the outages on school and student devices were caused by a Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDOS) attack on servers tasked with running Pickens County School District Online Services.

“I want to be clear it wasn’t a DDOS attack on our school district,” said John Eby with Pickens County School District Communications. “We’re not even sure if there was a DDOS attack on schools in general, but somewhere down the line there was a DDOS attack that affected our web filtering software company which affected all of our devices as well.
