SC: Roper Hospital patient records in courier’s stolen car

Rebecca Collett reports that a courier for Roper Hospital had a suitcase with patient records stolen on July 3 while she was paying for gas:

The medical records were in a locked suitcase in the car, according to Andy Lyons, the Director of Corporate Communications for the hospital system.   The records belong to 133 patients of Lowcountry Hematology and Oncology treated between June 11 and July 3.

It wasn’t just the suitcase that was stolen. The thief drove off with the car, which the courier had left running while she went in to pay.
