Sentencing in Albany Medical Center breach prosecution

Jessica Riley reports:

The boyfriend who helped a nurse steal identities from patients at Albany Med will spend up to 15 years in prison.

Emmett Woods was sentenced Monday in Albany County Court.

Woods and his girlfriend, Suzette Guzman-Moore, both pleaded guilty to several charges related to the identity theft case involving a number of patients at the hospital.

Guzman-Moore stole the identities over the course of a year and then she and Woods applied for multiple credit cards and made purchases using those identities,

Woods was sentenced to seven and a half to 15 years in prison.

Guzman-Moore is due to be sentenced on Tuesday.

The case first came to public attention in May , when Guzman-Moore was charged. Both defendants pleaded guilty in June. There is no listing of this incident on HHS’s public breach tool, which may mean that less than 500 patients at Albany Medical Center were affected.
