University of Pittsburgh Medical Center investigating scheme in which employee information misused for tax refund fraud scheme (updated)

UPMC said today that it is investigating how 22 employees have had their private identity information compromised as part of a “tax fraud” scheme.

“We have become aware that approximately 22 of our employees have been victimized,” UPMC said in a statement. “We are aggressively investigating with the United States Secret Service, Internal Revenue Service and United States Postal Inspection Service to determine the root cause.”
