VA: Woman sentenced for stealing identities of patients

Scott Daugherty reports:

A Suffolk woman was sentenced Monday to 5 years and 5 months in prison for her role in an identity theft scheme that targeted medical patients.

The sentence is on top of a two year one Sheila Clark Lewis is already serving in Suffolk, as well as any sentence she might receive next year for violating her probation in another federal case.

According to court documents, Lewis conspired with another woman from October 2012 through September 2013 to steal the identities of at least 200 medical patients.

Shavika Thompson obtained the victims’ names, Social Security numbers and birth dates from her place of employment, which prosecutors described as a “telephone answering and messaging service utilized by local doctors and medical practices.”
